01

Overview

BBGE is a messaging and community product. Most of my work was on its desktop client, with a separate contribution to mobile screen sharing.

A desktop messaging app has to explain what is happening when a QR login expires, a permission is missing, or someone starts sharing their screen.

02

My work

I worked on the React interface inside the Tauri desktop app and on realtime conversation and media flows.

  • Redesigned contacts, messages, group settings, and the shared media gallery.
  • Updated desktop login, including QR approval and expiry states.
  • Worked on call cards, permission feedback, and screen sharing, including a mobile screen-share receiver.

03

Technical decisions

The desktop app uses React inside a Tauri shell, with LiveKit for realtime media. The mobile app is a separate client.

  • Gave login and messaging flows explicit states so the interface could explain what to do next.
  • Treated publishing a screen and receiving one as separate media paths.
  • Used structured call state to build call previews and history.

04

Scope & status

The desktop conversation, media-gallery, and call-flow changes were integrated into development branches. I also implemented a focused mobile screen-share receiver.

  • System permissions need different explanations and recovery paths on each platform.
  • Screen sharing needs checks on both the sending and receiving devices.
